Enida Paduyao Danao belongs to an indigenous group in the Cordillera in northern Philippines. She grew up in a rich culture sorrounded by majestic mountains and pristine rivers. Enida loved going to the forest to pick up wild berries, climb pine trees or to gather anything interesting like leaves, twigs or seeds with unique shapes. As she's growing older, her parents felt the need for her and her siblings to attend school so her family moved to the lowland where schools are accessible. This was a nightmare for her as she was used to the quiet life in the mountain but she strived well and finished her studies. She taught in a secondary school but she felt another calling in jewelry design.
Enida saw the best of both worlds and she creatively combine these in her designs. Her designs are refined and sophisticated yet one can feel her rich culture and love of nature in every piece. That's what makes her designs truly unique.
SILNAG Collections are unique, statement jewelry made of organic/natural raw materials such as Philippine Water buffalo horn (Scientific name: Bubalus bubalis), Cow bone (Scientific name: Bos indicus), shell, scrap wood, etc. Our materials are by-products of food and farm trade. Ergo, no animals are harmed for the purpose of obtaining the said materials. None of the materials used are included in the CITES (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species) list. From the things that are almost thrown-away, Silnag artisans meticulously recycle and skillfully turn them into stunning pieces.
Silnag is an Ilokano (a Philippine dialect) word which means “the rays of the sun”. It symbolizes the hope and aspirations of Filipino artisans living in the countryside. Silnag takes pride in Filipino creativity, ingenuity, hardwork, and perseverance.
SIlnag was established in 2004. It exports to countries in Asia, North America, and Europe.
